Telecom Giant Swisscom Establishes New Blockchain Unit

Swisscom, a state-owned telecommunications provider in Switzerland, has established a new subsidiary focused on blockchain.

The new blockchain unit called “Swisscom Blockchain Ltd” will focus on a range of services around the blockchain technology. These include enterprise-facing solutions as well as support for companies looking to launch initial coin offerings (ICOs).

Swiss Miss: Agency Closes Down Faux E-Coin

E-Coin is no cryptocurrency, according to Swiss officials. The regulators have shut-down a bogus crypto called “E-Coin” that generated $4.2 million (4 million Swiss francs) in revenue for its creators.

The Financial Market Supervisory Authority of Switzerland (FINMA) closed down the site after discovering it didn’t have the required banking license.
