Bitcoin And Other Cryptocurrencies Retreat Again On Down Market Day

Bitcoin’s brief weekend rally was wiped out today, as investors continued to pummel cryptocurrency markets. As of mid-morning, bitcoin stood at $10,600 per single coin, down slightly more than seven percent over the last 24 hours.

Other cryptocurrencies reacted accordingly. Ethereum’s ETH was back below the magic $1,000 level, sitting at $972; Ripple XRP was at $1.22, down 11%; and Bitcoin Cash was at $1,606, way down from the weekend’s plus-$2,000 market.

The highest price seen was $12,533.10 on the LakeBTC exchange at 3:19 am today. LakeBTC saw $42,578,500 of bitcoin change hands.

The lowest price seen was $10,210.90 on Bittrex’s exchange at 11:00 am today. Bittrex’s 24 hour volume was $87,677,000.

The average price on the surveyed exchanges, as weighed by volume, was $11,377.34.

Volatility was nearly average, with the BlockTribune Volatility Index coming in at 50.9. A higher number indicates greater price volatility with 50 describing an average day.

These statistics were consolidated from 14 different exchanges. It includes only BTC/USD trades and only on those exchanges that had at least 1% of the total volume of BTC/USD trades during the measurement period.
