Bitcoin Falls Back, But Bitcoin Cash Sustains Momentum

Bitcoin rose as high as $7,700 for a single coin over the weekend before retracing to around $7,100 at mid-day on Monday, as the rally apparently lost its momentum to profit-taking.

Bitcoin Cash remained above the $600 mark, sitting at $625 at mid-day, continuing its recent run in anticipation of next week’s fork.

The highest price seen was $7,594.00 on the GDAX exchange at 3:12 pm yesterday. GDAX saw $142,133,000 of bitcoin change hands.

The lowest price seen was $6,450.00 on BTCC’s exchange at 2:36 pm yesterday. BTCC’s 24 hour volume was $43,560,300.

The average price on the surveyed exchanges, as weighed by volume, was $7,328.58.

Volatility was a bit above average, with the BlockTribune Volatility Index coming in at 52.9. A higher number indicates greater price volatility with 50 describing an average day.

These statistics were consolidated from 8 different exchanges. It includes only BTC/USD trades and only on those exchanges that had at least 1% of the total volume of BTC/USD trades during the measurement period.
