Bitcoin Hits $12,000 Mark Before Falling Back

Another milestone was reached early today by bitcoin, as its single-coin price topped $12,000 for the first time. Profit-takers then began their retreat, and the coin dropped more than $600 in what is becoming a normal level retracement.

The highest price seen was $12,000.00 on the BTCC exchange at 2:54 am today. BTCC saw $138,062,000 of bitcoin change hands.

The lowest price seen was $10,403.00 on Bitfinex’s exchange at 5:12 pm yesterday. Bitfinex’s 24 hour volume was $1,068,700,000.

The average price on the surveyed exchanges, as weighed by volume, was $11,353.95.

Volatility was a bit above average, with the BlockTribune Volatility Index coming in at 53.9. A higher number indicates greater price volatility with 50 describing an average day.

These statistics were consolidated from 8 different exchanges. It includes only BTC/USD trades and only on those exchanges that had at least 1% of the total volume of BTC/USD trades during the measurement period.
