Idom Inc., Japan’s largest used car dealerships, has partnered with cryptocurrency exchange Bitflyer to enable bitcoin payments at its branches across Japan.

Idom, formerly Gulliver International, is principally engaged in the sale of used cars. The company purchases pre-owned cars from general customers and sells purchased cars to corporate clients through nationwide auctions. It also sells pre-owned cars to general customers, franchisees and corporate members. Idom’s subsidiaries are involved in the auto loan service, insurance agency service, and the purchase and sale of used cars.

Idom plans to introduce the new payment method at the Liberala stores on December 20. These stores specialize in high-end cars like Bentley, BMW, and Audi. The 26 Liberala stores are located in Hokkaido, Tohoku, Kanto, Chubu, Kansai, Chugoku / Shikoku, and Kyushu. Idom also plans to add bitcoin payments to 550 additional locations.

“Holders of cryptocurrencies and available stores in Japan are increasing in recent years,” the company said. “In addition to domestic as well as overseas, cryptocurrencies are becoming a major means of settlement. Idom can make an early settlement with cheap remittance fee for the purpose of improving convenience for customers not only in Japan but also overseas.”
