Open source information portal bitcoin.org has issued a broadside against those companies that support the SegWit2x hard fork.

The site denounced the controversial SegWit2x scaling proposal, claiming its only supported by a minority of bitcoin users and technicians. The site termed its implementation a “rushed and hasty upgrade” that was “thoroughly rejcted by users and the technical community.

Bitcoin.org is one of the top search items for bitcoin, and a stop usually made by newcomers to cryptocurrency. Thus, the information on the site carries great clout and could stifle growth in some companies on the list.

Bitcoin.org claims that the new coin created is not really bitcoin, and vowed that they would not list wallets and services that present it as such. “These services have exited the bitcoin system in a contentious manner and therefore are no longer useful to our visitors.” Among the companies listed were miners, exchanges and wallets.

Among the companies listed as supporting the SegWit2x are Coinbase, ShapeShift, BitPay and Xapo, and claimed users of these exchanges may find themselves switched into a new coin without consent.
