Chronicled launches Ethereum-powered IoT open registry

Chronicled announced it has open sourced an Ethereum blockchain-based program that registers IoT devices in an open database.

Described as a “cross between Wikipedia and Carfax” for consumer goods, the platform will register the identities of near-field communication (NFC) and bluetooth low energy (BLE) chips, components of IoT that today allow smartphones to “talk” with other devices.

“Developers are invited and encouraged to build their own proprietary applications leveraging the public registry. Importantly, the registry is an open source layer and is not proprietary to Chronicled, Inc. It is a public good designed to outlive the lifespan of any company. Brands, chip companies and developers utilizing the registry cannot be locked in, monetized or forced to cede control over business critical data and customer relationships,” said Chronicled chief product officer Samantha Radocchia.

Chronicled is a blockchain startup headquartered in San Francisco.
