Craigslist Allows Sellers To Accept Cryptocurrency Paymentsbr>
Classified advertisements platform Craigslist has added a new feature which lets sellers indicate if they accept cryptocurrency payments.
The change was discovered by a Reddit user on December 8 in the “posting details” section of the Craigslist seller’s page. The service listing page for merchants included a checkbox to allow ad listings to specifically note that cryptocurrency payments are acceptable. Search filters also include the ability to sort by listings that specifically allow cryptocurrency to be used for purchase.
The new feature doesn’t actually handle or allow any financial transaction to take place on Craigslist’s servers. The new cryptocurrency checkbox is more for informational purposes to the seller to form part of the sale negotiations.
Founded by Craig Newmark, Craigslist is a classified advertisements website with sections devoted to jobs, housing, personals, for sale, items wanted, services, community, gigs, résumés, and discussion forums. Newmark began the service in 1995 as an email distribution list to friends, featuring local events in the San Francisco Bay Area. It became a web-based service in 1996 and expanded into other classified categories. It started expanding to other US cities in 2000, and now covers 70 countries.
