Brisbane Airport (BNE) has teamed with TravelbyBit to transform the airport into one of the world’s most crypto-friendly terminals.

Brisbane Airport is the primary international airport serving Brisbane and South East Queensland. It is the third-busiest Australian airport by aircraft movements. The airport services 31 airlines flying to 50 domestic and 29 international destinations, in total amounting to more than 22.7 million passengers who traveled through the airport in 2016.

TravelbyBit is a crypto startup that designs tourist routes and provides selected providers with its very own digital currency payment platform. Travelers using the TravelbyBit service can choose to pay in bitcoin, ethereum, Dash, or Steem. Although customers pay in digital currencies, the merchants can choose to receive payment in cryptocurrency, fiat currency, or a combination.

The airport said it partnered with a number of retailers inside the terminal. The retailers include Botanist, Spoon, Windmill & Co, Forte Espresso, Australian Way, Merino Collection, Carry On, Dreamtime Journey and multiple News Travels across the terminal. The partnership with TravelbyBit will allow travelers the ability to buy digitally.

“Many people around the world have made money investing in cryptocurrencies, and a lot of these people travel internationally, so it makes sense to offer a digital currency experience within our terminals,” said Roel Hellemons, Brisbane Airport.

TravelbyBit CEO Caleb Yeoh said that certain luxury hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues across Brisbane have also been adopted into TravelbyBit’s crypto payment network.

“Whenever you travel overseas, you have to deal with multiple currencies, and you never know what exchange rates the banks are charging you,” said Yeoh. “At TravelbyBit, we are promoting the bitcoin travel movement. Digital currency for world-wide travel.”
