NBA basketball team the Dallas Mavericks will accept cryptocurrency payments for tickets starting next season, according to owner and investor Mark Cuban.

A Dallas Mavericks fan asked Cuban on Twitter about the possibility of purchasing game tickets with bitcoin. Cuban simply answered, “Next season.”

In a follow-up comment, Cuban said that his team would accept bitcoin, ethereum, and “possibly some other currencies.”

“We will be adding a crypto payment ability for next season. We will accept BTC, ETH, possibly some other currencies,” said Cuban. [That’s] to be determined. We will also look at accepting tokens from companies we have traditional business relationships with as a way to expand our customer base.”

Cuban is a prominent figure in the cryptocurrency space. He is a backer of e-sports company Unikrn and crypto-asset investment fund 1confirmation. He also launched the Mercury Protocol for the communication industry in August, 2017. The protocol’s system is underpinned by an ERC20 token called the “Global Messaging Token” (GMT).

The Dallas Mavericks won’t be the first National Basketball Association (NBA) franchise to start accepting bitcoin as payment. In 2014, the Sacramento Kings began accepting bitcoin for products including tickets, jerseys, hot dogs and beers.
