Bitcoin Prices Slightly Up on Christmas Morning; Other Cryptocurrencies Follow

The bitcoin comeback from its sudden retreat last week continued this morning, although the see-saw action seems to change every day. Christmas morning was good news, as bitcoin’s single-coin price was up seven percent, holding just over the $14,000 per single coin level.

On Sunday, coin prices retreated a bit after a brief rally on Saturday. Bitcoin’s went as low as $11,800 on at least one exchange before bouncing off that bottom to about $13,800 at mid-day.

The highest price seen was $16,199.00 on the CEX.IO exchange at 7:00 pm yesterday. CEX.IO saw $44,406,000 of bitcoin change hands.

The lowest price seen was $12,102.00 on Bitfinex’s exchange at 2:18 pm yesterday. Bitfinex’s 24 hour volume was $679,676,000.

The average price on the surveyed exchanges, as weighed by volume, was $13,502.32.

Volatility was nearly average, with the BlockTribune Volatility Index coming in at 50.8. A higher number indicates greater price volatility with 50 describing an average day.

These statistics were consolidated from 11 different exchanges. It includes only BTC/USD trades and only on those exchanges that had at least 1% of the total volume of BTC/USD trades during the measurement period.
