On Tuesday, May 5, The Bitcoin startup, ShoCard announced their launch at Disrupt NY.

“A lot of companies are looking at the blockchain for things other than bitcoin. We’ve created a digital identity card that is as easy to use as a driver’s license but it’s so secure that a bank can rely on it,” ShoCard co-founder Jeff Weitzman.

ShoCard is building a digital identity system that encrypts and embeds sensitive information onto the bitcoin blockchain, removing the risk of a third party losing that data.

The company is still in its early stages, but founders say they’re already in talks with financial institutions to start implementing ShoCard as verification for online purchases.

ShoCard is a digital identity card you use through a mobile app.
