South Korea Cryptocurrency Crackdown: The Government Cooperates With China And Japan On Regulation

South Korea’s financial regulator is in talks with counterparts in China and Japan to cooperate on new rules for cryptocurrency trading.

Korean Financial Services Commission (FSC) chairman Choi Jong-ku revealed that vice finance ministers from the three countries had exchanged ideas on regulating cryptocurrencies during a meeting in South Korea last month.


Blockchain Consortium in Credit Cards Formed By SBI Ripple Asia

SBI Ripple Asia has formed a consortium with some Japanese credit card companies to utilize blockchain technology. Called the Credit Card Industry Consortium, the group will be formally established in January.

Formed in 2016, SBI Ripple Asia is the Asia-Pacific partnership of Japanese financial services company SBI Holdings and FinTech payments firm Ripple.

Idom Inc., Japan’s largest used car dealerships, has partnered with cryptocurrency exchange Bitflyer to enable bitcoin payments at its branches across Japan.

Idom, formerly Gulliver International, is principally engaged in the sale of used cars. The company purchases pre-owned cars from general customers and sells purchased cars to corporate clients through nationwide auctions.


Blockchain for International Trade Created By Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, NTT DATA

The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ and Japanese system integration firm NTT DATA have announced a blockchain proof-of-concept (PoC) aimed at reducing the mountains of documents involved in cross-border trade between Singapore and Japan.

The PoC will link Singapore’s National Trade Platform (NTP) with a distributed ledger system being developed by a Japanese blockchain consortium led by NTT Data and the Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group banking unit.
