Blockchain Regulatory Framework Now In Effect in Gibraltar

A regulatory framework for companies using distributed ledger technology (DLT) for the transmission or storage of value went into effect in Gibraltar on January 1. DLT firms will now have to apply for a license from the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission (GFSC).

The regulatory framework was introduced by Minister of Commerce Albert Isola in October.

Bitcoin Rewards Services Dropped By South Korean Banks

Two major South Korean banks, Shinhan and KB Kookmin, are reportedly discontinuing their “credit card points for bitcoin swap” services. The banks decided to drop the services in anticipation of forthcoming government action on cryptocurrency trading, according to the Korea Times.

The South Korean government has been holding meetings daily to discuss cryptocurrency regulation.

Crypto Exhanges Monitored By Australian Financial Intelligence Agency

The Australian government has passed a new law that would regulate the activities of digital currency exchange service providers in the country.

The Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Amendment Bill 2017, first filed with the Australian parliament in August, expands the scope of the Act to include regulation of digital currency exchange providers;
