Bitcoin and the rest of the cryptocurrency markets surged forward today, showing some strong gains after a relatively quiet period.

At mid-morning, bitcoin was at the $6,700 per single coin mark, up close to two percent over the last 24 hours. Ether, XRP and Bitcoin Cash had similar gains, albeit with a longer climb back to previous price heights.

EOS had a nearly five percent climb upward on the day, as a new governance system appears to be activated that will spur growth.

IOTA was the day’s big gainer, sporting a price about 13 percent higher on news that Japanese conglomerate Fujitsu is launching a proof-of-concept for audit trail processes in the manufacturing industry. Fujitsu will use the IOTA protocol as an “immutable data storage medium” for audit trails.
