Peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing service BitTorrent is now accepting crypto payments for its products.

Founded in 2004, BitTorrent is a communication protocol for P2P file sharing which is used to distribute data and electronic files over the Internet. It is one of the most common protocols for transferring large files, such as digital video files containing TV shows or video clips or digital audio files containing songs. Its desktop and mobile products are installed on hundreds of millions of new devices each year across 138 countries worldwide. Earlier this year, the company was acquired by Justin Sun, the founder of blockchain startup Tron, for $120 million.

In a press release, the company announced that customers can now pay for its Pro and Ads Free products in cryptocurrencies, such as TRON (TRX), Binance Coin (BNB), and bitcoin (BTC). Customers can purchase one-year subscriptions of BitTorrent or µTorrent products, including Ads Free and Pro for Windows. With Pro, users get anti-virus and anti-malware screening, file converting and playability in HD.

“BitTorrent joins a growing list of online companies whose products and services accept TRX as payment,” said Sun. “With BitTorrent’s over 100 million users, the move helps increase the use of TRX in online marketplaces while giving consumers more options to unlock value from BitTorrent’s premium products.”

The crypto payment option is being facilitated via payment gateway provider CoinPayments, which has supported TRX payment processing since TRON launched its main net.

“We are pleased to provide crypto payment support for their newly acquired company, BitTorrent,” CoinPayments said. “For customers who wish to purchase premium BitTorrent products using leading cryptocurrencies, CoinPayments helps provide a secure solution.”
