Blockchain reward ecosystem Refereum has teamed with gaming giant PUBG Corporation to bring blockchain and crypto benefits to gaming.

Refereum, founded by a team of veteran game industry experts and blockchain specialists, allows brands and developers to directly engage with, incentivize, and activate massive communities of video streamers and social influencers to drive meaningful buzz, interaction, and conversation around new products and services.

PUBG Corporation, a subsidiary of Korean publisher Bluehole, is an online game developer based in Seoul, South Korea. It is the company behind PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), one of the most popular multiplayer online battle royale video game. Since its release, PUBG has received worldwide acclaim, achieving seven Guinness World Records and winning multiple game awards worldwide.

Under the partnership, Refereum will roll out its cryptocurrency-based rewards feature to PUBG players. During the initial campaign, which will last until August 20, PUBG players will be able to earn on-chain crypto rewards (Refereum’s utility token, $RFR) for completing in-game objectives as well as fulfilling other tasks, such as livestreaming their gameplay, watching other players’ streams, and promoting games’ social media content.

“Gamers do so much free marketing for games through streaming services and social media, but they’re rarely compensated sufficiently for it,” said Refereum CEO Dylan Jones. “This is the problem Refereum aims to fix — and now, with this revolutionary new way of rewarding gamers for their in-game engagement with PUBG, we not only reward them for playing a game that they love, but for their dedication in becoming better players, too.”

Refereum previously offered its cryptocurrency-based rewards feature on games such as State of Decay 2, Fortnite, Apex Legends, and the Battlefield series. The firm said that it would introduce more gamers to blockchain and cryptocurrency in the future.
