The demand for blockchain developers is at an all-time high, according to data published by professional social network LinkedIn.

In its US Emerging Jobs Report for 2018, LinkedIn revealed its top five emerging jobs. Using data from LinkedIn’s Economic Graph, they analyzed the roles that companies are rapidly hiring for, the skills associated with them, and the roles that have emerged over the last five years.

The report found that blockchain developer was the fastest-growing job over the last 12 months, with 33 times growth year-over-year. According to Linkedin, the demand are coming from companies such as IBM, Consensys, and Chainyard. Cities where demand is high include San Francisco, New York City and Atlanta.

The demand for blockchain developers was initially hindered by a lack of understanding about the technology and minimal available resources for professionals to learn more about it. However, that has changed over the last couple of years with online programs, university courses, and workshops popping up at an impressive rate.

“Only time will tell what applications this still-nascent technology [blockchain] has, particularly outside of the cryptocurrency space and more generally in ordinary business functions,” LinkedIn Chief Economist Guy Berger told Yahoo Finance on Thursday. “I think it’s still going to be a speculative set of skills and occupations until it takes more hold and turns from more of a venture to something more concrete.”

LinkedIn’s US Emerging Jobs Report also include machine learning engineer (12X growth), application sales executive (8X growth), machine learning specialist (6X growth) and professional medical representative (6X growth).
