Blockchain firm Clearmatics has hired Tim Swanson as its head of market intelligence.

Founded in 2015, Clearmatics is a London-based blockchain research and development (R&D) company designing and servicing protocols for Decentralized Clearing Networks (DCN), a private, member-owned and governed network that enable peer-to-peer (P2P) transfer of financial value and automation of contractual and fiduciary operations without reliance on trusted third-parties. The company is the technology partner of the newly formed Fnality, the company behind an interbank “utility settlement coin” (USC).

Swanson initially began as one of the first advisors and then as one of the first employees to the first commercially-driven blockchain consortium, R3. He was the director of market research at R3, a position he held from near the time that consortium began growing in 2015 until late 2017. After leaving R3, he founded and managed US-based tech advisory firm Post Oak Lab.

Swanson has been on Clearmatics’ advisory board since 2015 and will come on board full-time as head of market intelligence.

Swanson said that he will not be working directly on Fnality’s USC project but will be focused on a number of other Clearmatics initiatives.

“The team is busy putting out an interoperability protocol,” he said. “I could help find other projects out there who would be compatible, companies who could plug in with ION.”
