According to Ripple, Lee’s appointment highlights the company’s commitment to the Asia-Pacific market, where Ripple’s momentum is rapidly increasing.

“We’re in growth mode. We consider Singapore a strategic part of the world for us,” said Eric van Miltenburg, Senior Vice President, Global Operations, Ripple. “The quality of the candidates and the talent pool here (Singapore) is very high. I see Singapore emerging as a global fintech hub…It’s really a great focal point for a lot of innovation.”

Lee said that he will leverage his experience in banking and finance to oversee the expansion of Ripple.

“I’m excited to be working with Ripple to revolutionise the market for cross-border payments,”Lee said. “We want to enable money to flow across borders as quickly as data does, by empowering players in the remittance and money transfer market. From here, Ripple’s payments solutions will be able to reach not only to financial institutions in the country, but also those that operate in Asia-Pacific at large.”
