Blockchain Payment System Launched By Dubai’s Atlantis Resortbr>
Dubai’s Atlantis, The Palm resort has launched a blockchain payment system that will enable guests to pay for services, activities and amenities at the hotel.
Atlantis, The Palm is a luxury hotel resort located at the apex of the Palm Jumeirah in the United Arab Emirates. It was the first resort to be built on the island and is themed on the myth of Atlantis, but includes distinct Arabian elements. The 1,539 room resort has two accommodation wings, consisting of the East and the West Tower, linked together by the Royal Bridge Suite. It is complemented by the Aquaventure water park and the Nasimi Beach, which frequently plays host to concerts and other events.
Called Lucid Pay, the blockchain payment system gives guests at Atlantis a secure and simple manner to pay for services. Lucid Pay also uses smart contracts that allow the hotel to pre-define guests’ terms and refund conditions, enabling stress-free and frictionless transactions.
The guests arriving at the resort would be given either a wristband or a digital wallet to charge all their services during their stay. The wristbands could be recharged through the wallet application, which is available for iOS and Android, or through charging stations at the resort. The resort claims that the payment system eliminates disputes and fraud, while providing automated loyalty programs and speedy executions.
The blockchain payment system is fully integrated with the resort’s existing payment and point-of-sales systems, Micros Symphony and Micros Opera, to enable integration with billing.
“From an operator perspective, time is money and innovation as well as efficiency are key,” said Helen Woodard, Director of Finance at Atlantis, The Palm. “Hence, the implementation of the cashless payment system increases the convenience for us as cash is no longer physically handled, audit time is spent more effectively, and greater security is guaranteed.”
