Birmingham City University has appointed Olinga Taeed as visiting professor of blockchain at its faculty of business, law and social sciences.
Taeed, believed to be the first academic to carry such a title, has authored 12 white papers on blockchain and is director of the Centre for Citizenship, Enterprise and Governance, a think-tank which focuses on the movement of non-financial and social value.
“The visiting professorship in blockchain is the first of its kind in the world, which frankly is remarkable given the rapidly burgeoning sector of distributed ledger technologies, tokenisation and cryptocurrencies,” Taeed said. “At Birmingham City University, we aim to establish a centre of excellence offering accredited courses in order to capture the market and provide real institutional level expertise to corporates and industries.”
