New York–based blockchain startup Paxos has appointed Daniel Burstein as its General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer.

Burstein has more than 14 years experience in the areas of regulatory investigations and enforcement, regulatory compliance, commercial litigation, and internal investigations. He’s currently a Senior Managing Director at Guidepost Solutions, security and compliance firm for high-profile clients based in New York. As part of his engagements at Guidepost Solutions, Burstein was serving as Interim Chief Compliance Officer at Paxos, and now will be joining the team full-time.

As Paxos’ Interim Chief Compliance Officer, Burstein spearheaded the company’s engagement with New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) regarding the launch of PAX, an ethereum blockchain-based stablecoin. His impressive work and insight led to PAX being the first digital asset to be approved by a financial regulator.

“While Dan has been with Paxos on an interim basis for almost a year, we are very pleased he will now be with us full-time,” said Charles Cascarilla, CEO and co-founder of Paxos. “Right now, Paxos is at a turning point. We have a big vision and mission for how we can impact the future of the global economy and we are working to introduce numerous products and services that can help achieve our goals. It’s an honor and a privilege that Dan will come aboard at this exciting time in our evolution. I am confident that we are stronger with Dan as part of our team.”
