Crypto-Based Speed Downloading Software Launched By BitTorrent

BitTorrent, a peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing service that was acquired by blockchain startup TRON last year, has released a new software that connects and rewards users with BitTorrent (BTT) tokens.

Called BitTorrent Speed, the new software will be integrated into new downloads of the popular µTorrent Classic Windows client, allowing users to receive BTT tokens in exchange for seeding and bandwidth.

“With BitTorrent Speed, the BitTorrent download speeds on peer-to-peer networks can get faster and become more readily available,” the company said in a press release. “Download optimization using BitTorrent Speed will vary, depending on the number of people using the file and the number bidding with tokens.”

According to BitTorrent, the release marks an exciting step towards the creation of “the world’s largest blockchain application for speedy uploading and downloading of files.”

“TRON has completed early integration work of its two decentralized networks – TRON and BitTorrent – with the launch of BitTorrent Speed,” said Justin Sun, founder of TRON and CEO of BitTorrent. “We expect to gain amazing feedback from early users, and look forward to adding features that will make the BitTorrent protocol better for millions of users.”

Earlier this year, BitTorrent partnered with GRID, a prepaid solution for buying, holding, and gifting TRX, to create a BTT-powered payment card. The card, which combines the features of a crypto wallet and a prepaid card, enables users to store cryptocurrency and make crypto payments in a physical item.
