Silicon Valley non-profit organization SENS Research Foundation (SRF) has received a $2.4 million ether donation from Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin.

SENS Research Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that works to research, develop, and promote comprehensive regenerative medicine solutions for the diseases of aging. The organization was co-founded by Michael Kope, Aubrey de Grey, Jeff Hall, Sarah Marr and Kevin Perrottte.

Buterin is merely the latest technology mogul to be interested in life extension technology. Many, including Amazon’s Jeff Bezos and Alphabit, have invested in the sector.

SRF is focused on a damage repair paradigm for treating the diseases of aging, which it advances through scientific research, advocacy, and education. SRF supports research projects at universities and institutes around the world with the goal of curing such age-related diseases as macular degeneration, heart disease, cancer, and Alzheimer’s disease.

“I’ve been a fan of Aubrey’s work since I first read Ending Aging when I was a teenager, and I am happy to have been blessed with the opportunity to personally support SENS’s efforts,” said Buterin. “Their focus on creating solutions to the diseases of aging, one of the greatest problems facing humanity, is very much in line with my goal to positively impact the lives of millions of people around the world.”

“SENS Research Foundation is honored to be the recipient of Vitalik’s incredible generosity,” said SENS Research Foundation CEO Mike Kope. “This was his second donation to us and his support is critical to SENS Research Foundation’s expansion of our programs. Our work to cure the diseases of aging is dependent on the generous support of our donors and we appreciate his support tremendously.”
