Fortnite Merch Store Now Accepts Monero As Payment Method

Retail Row, the official merchandise store of online video game Fortnite, is now exclusively accepting Monero (XMR) as a cryptocurrency payment option.

First released in 2017 and developed by Epic Games, Fortnite is a completely free multiplayer game where players collaborate to create their dream Fortnite world or battle to be the last one standing. The game has more than 125 million players and is reportedly earning hundreds of millions of dollars per month.

Named after a current location on Fortnite’s map, the Retail Row store offers Fortnite-inspired tees, sweatshirts and onesies. The store partnered with Swiss platform Globee, which allows retailers to accept cryptocurrencies, to facilate Monero transactions.

“Fortnite merch store lets you pay in Monero, so now you can purchase that sweet Durrr Burger onesie without your friends / family / coworkers judging you,” Monero’s project lead Riccardo Spagni said.

Spagni added that Fortnite isn’t currently allowing bitcoin because of its “lack of privacy,” but they’re considering Lightning Network because it restores some privacy to bitcoin.

Created in April 2014, Monero is an open-source cryptocurrency that focuses on fungibility, privacy and decentralization. It uses an obfuscated public ledger, which means anybody can broadcast or send transactions, but no outside observer can tell the source, amount or destination.
