French bus operator Isilines now accepts bitcoin payments

Isilines has announced that it is accepting bitcoin for the first time in the world for payment of bus tickets.

To accept bitcoin payments, Isilines has partnered with a French startup, Paymium, an online exchange. Paymium offers merchant processing and many other services similar to Coinbase, specializing in compliant trade between bitcoin and euros.

As an alternative mode of transportation, CEO of Transdev France, Richard Dujardin, said in a statement that the new service is part of their breakthrough innovation policy and as a new way to respond better to the new uses and expectations of their passengers.

Though the use of bitcoins as a payment method at Isilines is not yet available on the mobile reservation system, its implementation has been finalized on the website.

Isilines is a France-based bus and coach transport company.
