Glance Technologies has appointed venture capitalist Spiros Margaris to its advisory board.

Margaris is an influencer in insurance, artificial intelligence, and blockchain. As an advisor, Margaris will assist Glance in identifying opportunities for growth in FinTech and provide strategy advice.

“I see Glance Pay as one of the great fintech opportunities that one does not come across often,” said Margaris. “The team has proven that it knows how to execute its strategy successfully in Canada and I am convinced they can do the same in the U.S. I am excited to be part of such a great team and to contribute as an Advisory Board member to the Glance Pay success story.”

Glance Technologies owns and operates Glance Pay, a streamlined payment system for smartphone where users choose where to dine, order goods and services, make payments, and access digital receipts. Glance is building a network of merchants and consumers, and offers targeted in-app marketing, geo-targeted digital coupons, social media marketing, customer feedback, in-merchant messaging and custom rewards programs. The company’s mobile payment app includes proprietary anti-fraud technology, for which the company has filed patents.

The company has entered into significant licensing agreements to access the cannabis, fitness and wellness industries through Active Pay Distribution Inc. and Cannapay Financial Inc. Cannapay, a partially owned subsidiary, combines traditional financial services with technology to provide digital financial services to legally operating businesses in the cannabis industry.

Future plans include offering multiple payment channels in cryptocurrency and reviewing how cryptocurrency and blockchain may be used to strengthen security features and to broaden the utility of the payment system.

The shares are trading at $0.49 on the Canadian Stock Exchange, and with 94 million shares outstanding, the company is capitalized at $46 million.
