Juniper Research: More Than Half of Large Corporations Looking Into Blockchain

U.K. analysis firm Juniper Research has issued a report indicating  more than half of the world’s large corporations are looking into blockchain technology.

The findings, released today, said that 57 percent of large corporations (defined as any company with more than 20,000 employees) were deploying blockchain or strongly considering it.

Of those, two-thirds said they expected the technology to be integrated into their systems by the end of 2018.

“It is clear that companies across the board have a significantly greater understanding of blockchain technology than was the case 12 months ago,” Juniper’s report said. “This stems in part from a surge in R&D (research and development) both internally and in partnership with third parties, with a recognition that blockchain has the potential to be deployed in a variety of use cases.”

Juniper also mentioned that companies should consider whether blockchain is the necessary solution to their needs, as some companies under-estimate the challenges of deployment. They should seek “systemic change, rather than technological” innovation. That “might be a better and cheaper solution than blockchain, which could potentially cause significant internal and external disruption.”
