Steve Tendon, the head of blockchain consultancy firm ChainStrategies, has been tapped by the Marshall Islands as its cryptocurrency advisor in the rollout of its national cryptocurrency, Sovereign.

Tendon will help with development of Sovereign and assist its government with “the drafting, design, and issuance of their new cryptocurrency,” according to a statement from the government.

Tendon is the founder and president of the Blockchain Malta Association, and acts as a chief technology officer at Anticipay, a FinTech firm. He has been a strategic advisor to Malta’s Prime Minister, when the nation was focusing on attracting blockchain and cryptocurrency-related companies.

Peter Dittus, chief economist of Sovereign, called Tendon a “foremost expert in blockchain and regulations. He will assist with the drafting and designing of regulations to develop a blockchain financial services economy out of the Marshall Islands.”

The Marshall Islands cryptocurrency  is modeled after the Cayman Islands plan to roll out its own coin.
