Monsoon Blockchain Storage Signs Deal With Two Philippine Govt Tech Agencies

Monsoon Blockchain Storage has signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with two agencies of the government of the Philippines to promote the use of blockchain technology in the country.

Incorporated in 2018 and is based in Wilmington, Delaware, Monsoon Blockchain Storage provides blockchain-based cloud data storage optimization service.

Per the announcement, Monsoon signed two separate MoA with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT). Under the MoA, the company will provide both agencies with complimentary consultation, advice, cost-benefit and socioeconomic analysis on the use of blockchain technology in the Philippines and its impact on trade, regulations, and service delivery.

Monsoon will carry out needs assessment and recommend proposals on how the agencies can effectively utilize blockchain technology in its programs and projects. The parties also agreed to support the advocacy programs on promotion of blockchain technology and cybersecurity through information dissemination and capacity-building activities.

“President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration is committed to seek for more ways in facilitating ease of doing business in the country, to encourage more investors as well as micro entrepreneurs to grow and expand, and become our partners in providing more jobs and opportunities to all Filipinos,” said DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez. “Through this partnership, the government will be more equip with information on the potentials and impact of blockchain technology in doing business in the Philippines.”

Donald Basile, Monsoon CEO and co-founder, said the they partnered with the agenies because of the government’s willingness to adopt the technology.

“The government here has chosen to embrace the fourth industrial revolution,” Basile said. “So you want people who want to take that technological leap. The (national) ID system will be one of the foundations of blockchain. The creation of that on blockchain I think will be an enabling technology.”
