New Service Aims at Intellectual Property

Blockchain Labs has launched PriorThings, an intellectual property service that registers prior art in a permanent record.

Although registration on the new service will not eliminate the need for formal copyrights, patents and trademarks, it is another tool available when disputes arise over creative works and inventions. PriorThings will not require a digital wallet to participate.

Registered works will be recorded on a public blockchain in bundles of digital assets. The bundles will be fingerprinted and then registered on the blockchain using ethereum.

The PriorThings intent is to go beyond FinTech as a way to prod blockchain use, creating a system that allows people to engage with the new technology, said Blockchain Labs founder David McInnis.

The company recommends that users consult legal counsel to determine if the PriorThings service fits into their intellectual property strategy.
