Privacy is a Fundamental Right Not a Privilege
br>For the past 25 years, we have been experiencing an internet that is neither functional nor democratic. Tech giants are selling their users information for revenue, hiding them in the little footnotes, sometimes taking it outright without any consent. This dysfunctional ecosystem led by Google AdSense created petty income for content creators whilst wiping out the whole internet experience and filling it with targeted, data tracking ads, selling our information to brands.
We believe privacy is a fundamental right, not a privilege.
A lot is dependent on private and sensitive information being stored and transmitted online as the demand for privacy has taken a significant stance in this day and age, over the years tech-giants have become good at tracking and storing our data to feed their AI algorithms that are constantly churning it in the background to enhance the overall user journey. However, this has resulted in a bad user experience due to the constant efforts of revenue-generating ads deployed by advertisers on the web like getting ads, which have spoilt the user experience of browsing the web and which at times don’t hold any relevance to your buying habits or interest.
As one can imagine, tech giants are far from unwilling to accept this as abuse and a violation of basic rights. According to the Journal of Information Policy article, former Facebook chief security officer Alex Stamos stated that the advertising components of social media have the most capability for abuse generally. This explains as the digital advertisement system can easily be weaponized if in the wrong hands. And that’s what is happening today. In the 2016 US Elections Cambridge Analytica’s stolen data from Facebook, was used in targeting Trump voters. To raise the awareness of the importance of data privacy rights this is just one of the incidents.
But thanks to blockchain technology, there are other, much fairer ways to monetize websites and mobile applications without collecting any data or exploiting the visitors. This will enable more freedom for content creators, making them not dependent on revenues coming from the targeted ads. As it will be a more transparent and democratic approach to disrupt the current system and take us one step further to Web3.0.
Our solution will enable websites to earn revenue by using a very small percentage of their users’ spare processing power while openly having the consent of the visitors: a more sustainable and equitable business model for the whole ecosystem.
Gather developed a powerful new technology that allows web and mobile developers to earn money through processing power contributions, while making Cloud markets cheaper and fairer. Gather is unlocking a new type of business model for the internet by allowing publishers to monetize without ads and by providing businesses & developers access to affordable and reliable processing power, and users can browse thru the website without any distraction creating a win-win, self-sustainable ecosystem.
Our core product has undergone extensive stress testing to ensure our product only uses what is necessary without creating performance issues; however, any publisher will be able to adjust the already limited load on a percentage basis within the defined limits set by Gather. So it gives total control over the content creator, taking the power from a single hand and spreading it among people.
