Samsung SDS, the Internet technology solutions unit of Samsung Group, will be adding blockchain technology to its entrprise IT solution packages.

Established in 1985, Samsung SDS provides information technology services, including consulting services, technical services, and outsourcing services. It has been expanding its business area by investing on research and development (R&D) and emerging IT technologies such as blockchain, AI, IOT and Engineering Outsourcing. In 2017, the firm developed its enterprise blockchain platform Nexledger, which allows companies to provide various transactional services. The platform has been implemented in various fields, such as finance, manufacturing, logistics, and the public sector.

During Samsung’s Real 2019 event in Seoul, Samsung SDS CEO Hong Won-pyo presented a new package of tools, dubbed “Digital Transformation Framework,” that will help drive the successful digital transformation of customers. The package will reportedly feature several updates, including intelligent enterprise and next generation ERP / SCM / IPA, intelligent factory (manufacturing / logistics / plant intelligence), cloud security, and innovative technology platforms (AI / blockchain / IoT).

“Digital conversion is emerging as a key element in many domestic and foreign companies, and the “Digital Transformation Framework” is a solution for this,” Won-pyo said.

Last month, Samsung SDS released the next version of its enterprise blockchain platform, called Nexledger Universal. The platform provides standard application programming interface (API) that is commonly applicable to Samsung SDS NCA (Nexledger Consensus Algorithm) and general blockchain, such as Hyperledger Fabric and Ethereum.

At the same event, Hong Hyeong-jin, CEO of Samsung SDS’ Nexledger project, said that blockchain is a technology that is used in all areas of business including finance, manufacturing, logistics, and distribution, adding that they are upgrading the company’s blockchain platform at Nexledger to meet the demand.
