Fundament Group Receives Approval From German Regulator For €250M Blockchain-Based Real Estate Bond

Fundament Group has received approval from the German Financial Market Supervisory Authority (BaFin) to distribute the country’s first tokenized real estate-backed bond worth €250 million ($280M USD).

Fundament Group, which offers a one-stop-shop solution for tokenizing investments, said in a press release that the bond is based on the ethereum blockchain and powered by the ERC-20 token standard.

The Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin), Germany’s financial regulator, has issued a “letter of advice” on the regulatory classification of tokens issued via initial coin offerings (ICO).

The regulator stated that it has been receiving many inquiries about its stand on ICOs and whether tokens distributed during crowdsales are considered financial instruments.

The Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin), Germany’s financial regulator, has warned investors of the risks associated with initial coin offerings (ICO). BaFin is the latest regulatory authority to comment on the ramifications of ICOs.

BaFin stated that ICOs are a highly speculative form of investment and that the acquisition of tokens as part of ICOs may result in substantial risks for investors.
