Crypto Malware Spreads Via Facebook Messenger

Cybersecurity company Trend Micro has identified a malicious Chrome extension that hijacks cryptocurrency transactions.

Dubbed FacexWorm, the malicious extension, which was first discovered by Kaspersky Labs in August 2017, uses a miscellany of techniques to target cryptocurrency trading platforms accessed on an affected browser and propagates via Facebook Messenger.

Egyptian Telecom Giant Redirecting Internet Users’ Computers To Mine Monero

The University of Toronto’s Citizen Lab has discovered that the Egyptian government has been using a malware to redirect their citizens’ computers to mine Monero.

The technology research lab claimed in a study that they identified a scheme they call “AdHose” that secretly redirects Egyptian Internet users’ web traffic to a malware that used their computers to mine the Monero cryptocurrency or display ads.

Kaspersky Lab: Malware Stole $140,000 in Bitcoin

International software security group Kaspersky Lab recently discovered a new malware called CryptoShuffler Trojan. The new malware steals cryptocurrencies from a user’s wallet by replacing their address with its own in the device’s clipboard.

Kaspersky said CryptoShuffler Trojan enters computers disguised as a harmless pieces of software downloaded from the Internet.
