Thanksgiving Turkey Has Blockchain Connection With Cargill Solution

Last year, Honeysuckle White became the first major turkey brand to use a blockchain solution by launching a traceable turkey pilot program. This Thanksgiving, the brand is expanding the program to allow more consumers to trace their Thanksgiving turkey back to the family farm where it was raised.

The blockchain-based solution enabled by Cargill optimizes transparency in the raising of Honeysuckle White turkeys by establishing a proven and trusted environment to build a transparent food chain, integrating farmers and producers, suppliers, processors, distributors, retailers, regulators and consumers. Through a simple text or entering an on-package code at HoneysuckleWhite.com, consumers can access the farm’s location by state and county, view the family farm story, see photos from the farm, and read a message from the farmer.

Cargill set the US and global food supply transparency standard last year through the development and launch of a blockchain-based solution for protein. In 2018, Honeysuckle White is building off last year’s pilot by broadening the quantity and reach of the program, furthering the brand’s commitment to food transparency and putting nutritious food on the family table.

  • Throughout the holiday season traceable turkeys will be available from more than 70 farms, a significant expansion from the four family farms that participated last year.
  • More than 200,000 traceable turkeys from Honeysuckle White will be available to consumers this Thanksgiving, which is an expansion from the 60,000 turkeys that were available over the holiday season last year.
  • Honeysuckle White turkeys will be available by Thanksgiving 2018 in 3,500 retail stores across the Midwest and several other marketsaround the U.S., including Denver, Nashville and Seattle.

In addition to availability at retail locations, Honeysuckle White traceable turkeys will be purchasable online this holiday season at www.HoneysuckleWhite.com, and a limited quantity will be available on Amazon.com and through HelloFresh.
