The Asia Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Association (ABACA) has appointed Ryan Terribilini as its advisor.

Terribilini is a blockchain industry veteran who previously served as the Head of Platform Partnerships at Ripple and a current research associate focused on cryptoasset regulation at the University of Oxford’s Center for Technology and Global Affairs. He is also the co-founder and president of Formosa Financial, a platform and service provider for innovative companies in the blockchain space.

In December 22018, ABACA was appointed as a self-regulatory organization (SRO) by the Philippines’ Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA). The association develops and enforces a code of conduct and provides reports to CEZA for any breach, violations, or any matters that involve the the CEZA Fintech and Offshore Virtual Currency Exchange Rules and Regulations (FTSOVCERR). Among the members of ABACA are 20 licensed offshore virtual currency exchanges (OVCE) as well as US, regional, and local tech companies such as HatchAsia, Eplata, and Hybrid Block.

As an advisor to ABACA, Terribilini will help companies in Taiwan gain firsthand experience operating in the regulatory sandbox offered to CEZA license holders. He will provide ABACA with advice on policy development based on his years of experience working with banks and FinTech startups in the blockchain space.

“It’s a great honor to be appointed as an advisor to ABACA,” Terribilini said. “Having the pleasure of working with Vice-Chairman Enrique Gonzalez and others involved with the CEZA project, I am more and more excited by the limitless potential of utilizing special economic zones to facilitate policy innovation and foreign investment. We hope to take our learnings from this experience to help build a stronger blockchain ecosystem in Taiwan and across the APAC region.”

According to ABACA, Terribilini will provide assistance to both companies and regulators such as CEZA in determining industry best practices in a variety of critical areas.

“We welcome Ryan as an advisor given his strong track record in Blockchain. ABACA’s Board of Advisors functions like a brain trust which allows us to bring cutting edge knowledge into the CEZA ecosystem,” said ABACA Vice-Chairman Enrique Gonzalez. “Ryan and Formosa also play a key role in the digital corridor we are building with Taiwan.”
