Bitblox Sues Transport Companies Over Damaged Bitcoin Mining Machines
br>On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, Bitblox LLC filed a complaint in the US District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania against Central Transport LLC and J.B. Hunt, alleging damages to a shipment of bitcoin mining machines. The lawsuit claims the defendants are liable under the Carmack Amendment for losses incurred during transportation.
Bitblox, a Pennsylvania-based limited liability company, engaged J.B. Hunt, a corporation based in Lowell, Arkansas, to arrange the transport of the machines. J.B. Hunt, acting as a broker, assigned the shipment to Central Transport, a motor carrier based in Warren, Michigan. The machines were shipped from EZ Blockchain LLC in Newberry, South Carolina, to Pennsylvania between September 25 and October 1, 2024.
According to the complaint, the machines were in good condition when loaded onto Central Transport’s truck on September 25, 2024. The shipment, secured on four pallets, was transported without any noted issues or objections regarding packaging at the point of origin.
Upon delivery to the Blue Ridge Travel Plaza in Mountain Top, Pennsylvania, on October 1, 2024, Bitblox’s facilities and safety officer, Ed Kopeck, observed that the machines were damaged, dirty, and improperly secured. Kopeck immediately informed the Central Transport driver of the damages, attributing them to improper handling and failure to ensure the cargo’s safety during transit.
Bitblox alleges the machines, valued at $717,372, were damaged while under Central Transport’s exclusive control. The company filed a claim with Central Transport, which was denied on November 12, 2024. A subsequent claim against J.B. Hunt was also denied on March 4, 2025. The lawsuit asserts that the damages were not caused by an act of god, public enemy, shipper error, public authority, or the inherent nature of the cargo.
The complaint seeks judgment against Central Transport and J.B. Hunt for $717,372, citing liability under the Carmack Amendment for losses resulting from interstate transportation. Bitblox claims neither defendant offered special rates or additional liability coverage for the shipment.
