Bitcoin Breaks $10,000 Mark On Green Arrow Day

The mini-rally continued today for bitcoin, as the legacy digital currency climbed over the $10,000 per single coin mark. Next stop: the psychologically important $10,500 barrier.

It was green arrows throughout the Top 20. Litecoin, which surged close to 30 percent yesterday, cooled somewhat, but still is up eight percent on the day to $223. The massive uptick is in anticipation of a hard fork.

The highest price seen was $10,079.40 on the Kraken exchange at 12:54 pm today. Kraken saw $82,719,600 of bitcoin change hands.

The lowest price seen was $9,183.02 on Huobi’s exchange at 2:36 pm yesterday. Huobi’s 24 hour volume was $116,329,000.

The average price on the surveyed exchanges, as weighed by volume, was $9,604.46.

Volatility was a bit lower than average, with the BlockTribune Volatility Index coming in at 45.7. A higher number indicates greater price volatility with 50 describing an average day.

These statistics were consolidated from 10 different exchanges. It includes only BTC/USD trades and only on those exchanges that had at least 1% of the total volume of BTC/USD trades during the measurement period.
