Blockchain 3.0 platform Aeternity has launched an incubator program to support the global blockchain ecosystem.

Founded in 2016 by the so-called “Godfather of Ethereum,” Yanislav Malahov, Aeternity is a public, open-source, blockchain-based distributed computing and digital-asset platform that builds upon decentralized cryptographic P2P technology. It provides a virtual machine which can execute scripts using an decentralized global network of public nodes maintaining the blockchain.

The incubator program, called Starfleet, will support global startups and provide them with up to $250,000 in funding and access to a co-working space. The goal of Starfleet is to build a network of innovators, investors, and industry enthusiasts and take the blockchain industry forward. The first wave of incubators will commence on June 11 and will take place in Sofia, Bulgaria. Future programs will be also offered in co-working spaces in Vaduz, Liechtenstein, Berlin, Germany, and Zagreb, Croatia, with online options as well.

“Today’s launch is the culmination of months of extensive research and preparation and underlines our commitment to be the enablers of innovation, strengthening the already thriving blockchain community worldwide,” Aeternity founder Yanislav Malahov said. “We are confident that these incubator programs will accelerate the adoption of blockchain technology globally and support projects that share our vision for a future built on powerful, user-friendly decentralized applications.”

Starfleet will work in partnership with Sofia-based Software University (SoftUni). Starfleet will support SoftUni’s blockchain education and project development. Aeternity touted its partnership with SoftUni as a collaboration between industry and academia, geared towards developing the next generation of entrepreneurs and innovators to meet the growing demand for blockchain-literate professionals.

“I expect this program will contribute greatly to the blockchain startup ecosystem,” said Hristo Tenchev, Founder of SoftUni. “With a significant concentration of technical talent and entrepreneurs, a blockchain-focused incubator program is exactly what the current ecosystem needs.”

Aeternity Ventures, based in Sofia, will be in charge of the business side of Aeternity’s global incubator and accelerator programs. It will be responsible for strategic business partnerships and investments in early-stage blockchain ventures.

“With the program currently operating in Sofia, Aeternity Starfleet is well-positioned to capture and channel the incredible energy in thriving blockchain communities, as we build a robust, worldwide blockchain ecosystem,” said Nikola Stojanow. “We look forward to welcoming participants from all over the world in the weeks and months ahead.”
