Blockchain Ticketing App Deployed By Union Of European Football Associationsbr>
The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has successfully deployed a new mobile ticketing app built with blockchain.
UEFA runs official international competitions in Europe and some countries of Northern, Southwestern and Central Asia for national teams and professional clubs, some of which are regarded as the world’s most prestigious tournaments. Consisting of 55 national association members, UEFA is one of six continental confederations of world football’s governing body FIFA.
UEFA’s new blokchain-based ticketing app is designed to provide secure ticket distribution that can prevent forgery and duplication of tickets. It guarantees the validity of mobile tickets, which are downloaded onto a user’s iOS or Android device.
Following the successful implementation of the new blokchain-based ticketing app for 50 percent of the tickets for the 2018 UEFA Europa League final between Atlético and Marseille in Lyon in May, UEFA was able to increase the technology’s reach to all of the general public acquiring tickets for this year’s UEFA Super Cup match in Estonia.
“For this week’s UEFA Super Cup match between Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid in Tallinn, Estonia, a new system was fully deployed whereby UEFA distributed 100% of the match tickets sold to the general public through the deployment of a blockchain-based dedicated iOS and android app,” UEFA said.
UEFA said it will continue to develop the system further, with the aim of using it at future events.
