Blockchain travel platform Winding Tree has announced a zero-fee marketplace for the travel industry that enables a secure and direct connection between distributors and suppliers on a single platform.

Founded in June 2017, Winding Tree enables startups and companies to gain direct access to travel service providers’ offerings without the need for intermediaries. It connects buyers and sellers via a set of smart contracts and open-source tools in a non-rent-seeking manner without taking a transaction fee. At the same time, the participants of the Winding Tree platform are able to govern the platform collaboratively. The platform already boasts numerous airlines including Air France-KLM, Lufthansa and subsidiary Eurowings, Swiss Air, Swissport, Brussels Airlines, Austrian Airlines, and Air New Zealand.

For years, a limited number of intermediaries have come to dominate the travel market, in the process raising marketing costs for suppliers and, ultimately, end prices for consumers. Winding Tree’s zero-fee marketplace aims to rebalance the dynamics in the consumer’s favor by enabling a secure and direct connection between distributors and suppliers on a single platform, with zero fees, full channel-inventory control, and minimal tech investment.

“As Winding Tree’s platform continues to emerge, a world in which we can all connect to each other, without monopolies or rent-seeking intermediaries, is starting to become a reality,” said Maksim Izmaylov, CEO and Co-Founder of Winding Tree.

According to Winding Tree, the new platform provides the four key pillars of a future-proof modern marketplace for travel. These include Glider, the world’s first open-source OTA (online travel agency,) that allows anyone to take its code and start their own OTA; Simard Pay, a B2B payments-settlement solution to facilitate transactions; ORG.ID, a database of trusted organizations, including airlines, hotels, car rentals, airports, and insurance providers; and Arbor, a user-friendly dashboard for interacting with the ORG.ID network.

“With the launch of this marketplace, Winding Tree is reshaping travel by connecting travel companies with no extra fees, no intermediates, no loss of control, and no data withheld,” said Pedro Anderson, COO and Co-Founder of Winding Tree.
