Crypto Exchange Hack Dents Market Confidence, Sends Prices Sliding

News that a relatively minor Canadian exchange was hacked have sent cryptocurrency prices off a cliff this morning. So far, at least, the shockwave appears to be small, but bears watching.

The MapleChange exchange revealed that 913 bitcoin were hacked from its system, causing the temporary crisis of confidence in the market. Bitcoin was at the $6,300 level, down more than two percent, after a weekend of little movement. Volume was moderately high in the early going.

The rest of the market was also down, with ether below $200 for the first time in a while, and losses of three to five percent dotting the rest of the top ten coins.
