Nevada Law Would Stop Blockchain Taxes
br>A Nevada state senator has introduced a bill that would prevent fees or taxes on blockchain use. Senator Ben Kieckhefer (R-Reno) introduced Nevada Senate Bill 398, filed March 20.
The proposed law prohibits taxing tech or requiring a license to use a blockchain or smart contract. Blockchain use also could not be prohibited in legal proceedings under the proposal. Arizona introduced a similar law earlier this year, while Vermont also pursued a similar line of reasoning in a proposed law.
Kieckhefer serves as assistant minority leader in the state senate, which meets every two years for a 120-day session. He was elected in 2010 to represent Senate District 15, which encompasses portions of Reno, Pleasant Valley, Incline Village, New Washoe City and Carson City.
A former reporter with Associated Press, Kieckhefer has also worked as press secretary for Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons and spokesman for the state Department of Health and Human Services.
