India Committee Mulling Bitcoin Legality

A report indicates the government of India may decide on bitcoin’s legal status in that nation as soon as the end of this month.

A report from MoneyControl indicates a committee will study cryptocurrency and turn in its findings by April 20.

Recent warnings from government officials on bitcoin and other cryptocurrency potential harms have roiled the technology community.While bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are not illegal in India, the country’s established businesses could be forced to shutter if a negative ruling goes into effect.

The India bitcoin community has circulated an online petition urging officials to make bitcoin officially legal, gaining 10,000 signatures in its first week.
