US customers can now buy bitcoin with Visa or MasterCard credit/debit card via Bitstamp.

European Union-based bitcoin marketplace Bitstamp has added the United States to the list of countries where its customers can buy bitcoin by Visa or MasterCard credit/debit card. This functionality is already available to customers in the EU and 60 other countries around the world.

Bitstamp said that the reason behind the move to add USA was the recent upswing in the value of bitcoin, edging past $1,800 last week, which significantly increased demand for the digital currency at the marketplace.

Bitstamp has partnered with FinTech cyber-security company Simplex in order to process this payments to US customers.

Bitstamp users in the US can go to the deposit page and choose “credit card” from the side menu. They can then select the amount to be spent and enter the card details. “Only a one-time verification of your card details is required before instant bitcoin purchases on Bitstamp are yours,” according to the company statement.
