Chinese search engine giant Baidu has developed a new operating system for the development of decentralized applications (DApps).

Called Baidu Blockchain Engine (BBE), the new system, which is based on Baidu’s ABC technology – artificial intelligence (AI), big data and cloud computing, will allow blockchain developers to build DApps the same way they develop “mobile apps” using Baidu’s resources.

“The Baidu blockchain engine BBE uses the pluggable blockchain framework to provide developers with a complete multi-chain, middle-tier and various contract templates, DApp templates and other services to make the development of blockchain business systems faster and simple,” said Baidu’s cloud computing unit Baidu Cloud, “BBE will undoubtedly form a new drive for the commercial development of blockchain technology.”

According to Baidu Cloud, BBE has six functions including trusted computing environment, high performance and high throughput, scalable storage, cross-chain trusted interaction, general intelligent contract and contract security audit. At present, the new system has been applied to various scenarios, such as Internet of Things (IoT), hazardous chemicals logistics, financial collection, asset securitization ABS, financial information sharing platform, and consumer finance.

“BBE supports deployment on Baidu private cloud, developers can easily create and manage the blockchain network quickly on the private cloud platform,” Baidu Cloud said. “In addition, BBE also supports deployment in the customer’s existing enterprise room, and can also build a highly available and flexible deployment of privatized blockchain BaaS platform.”

In the future, Baidu Cloud said that it will continue to explore the use cases of blockchain technology with its technical team to provide more and better services for enterprises and developers.
