Crypto Payments Firm Fold Pacts With Dominos For Pizza Via Lightning Network

Bitcoin’s legendary Pizza Day is now everyday, thanks to an innovation by San Francisco payment app Fold.

Lightning Pizza claims it’s the “first nationwide retail service powered by lightning payments meant to spread utility and spur awareness and adoption.” Users are able to select pizza from Domino’s for collection or delivery to any US address.

Payment is via the Lightning Network and in bitcoin. Transaction times are said to be 30 seconds or less and the fee is less than one US cent.

The full Dominos menu is not available yet, so those cravings beyond pizza still require a fiat payment. The move by Fold is its latest real-world tie, as the firm already offers the bitcoin option for Starbucks and Uber, among others.

“Bitcoin Pizza Day,” a date in 2010 when a hungry Florida man traded 10,000 coins for two pizzas. In effect, he spent many hundreds of dollars for pizzas worth $25.
